HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

Yesterday was a BIG day for Red’s Running! I cannot wait to share with you the big news! It will have to wait until tomorrow, my friends, but it is exciting!!

I dressed up (read: didn’t wear running clothes) for this meeting.

When I picked Lynny up she asked why I looked pretty today. Babies are honest, y’all. If you don’t wear makeup, fix your hair, and wear things other than running gear, Lynny thinks you’re not pretty. From the mouths of babes…

Since I was getting ready for my yard sale yesterday and Lynny was at the sitter, not many pictures were taken or activities accomplished.

We did get to go by the local Farmer’s Market for a concert. Our town puts on free concerts every Thursday night in the summer. Usually they have pretty good bands. Last night wasn’t my favorite, but we got to spend some time with Aaron’s family, including some family that are in from Colorado that we don’t get to see too often, so it was still a great time!

Today I’d like to do a review on Qalo rings! My first ring was purchased for me as a Christmas gift in 2015 (thanks, Momma and Scotty!). My parents got Aaron and I matching thin blue line Qalos since Aaron had just started his law enforcement career. I had also expressed interest in starting CrossFit (which I did in January of 2016), and wanted something I could wear to the gym so that I didn’t have to worry about ruining my wedding set (that I LOVE- good job, Aaron!) My ring size was a 6.25 and I ordered a 6. It was a little tight for a few days, but adjusted to my finger rather quickly and in no time I barely realized I was wearing it! You can see the design pretty well in this picture :)

I wore the band daily and only put my real set on for special occasions. The Qalo was so comfortable! Not to mention, I was NEVER worried about something happening to it. For $24.95, it was much cheaper to replace than my real wedding set!

Aaron also loved his! In law enforcement, you never know what you’ll get into on any given shift. He likes knowing he doesn’t have to worry about losing or damaging his wedding band! His has stretched over past little bit (which is expected considering he has worn it every day for well over a year and a half), so I may need to get him a new one pretty soon!

We even wore them in our Spartan races last year!

I wore my thin blue line ring for over a year when I had my infamous ring incident. Each Christmas at work, we do some sort of fun group activity. For 2016, we played a scavenger hunt on an app called Goose Chase. We were split into teams of 4 and sent on a wild goose chase through town looking for certain items. It was literally one of the BEST things we have ever done as a group… SO FUN. (Thank you, Pam and DeDe!!)

During one portion, I was attempting to sprint (yes, sprint- we are competitive at these things…) out of a room and sling shot myself into a hallway. When I passed through the door, I grabbed the frame to help guide my soon-to-be failed sling shot move. Big mistake.

For some unknown reason, that morning I chose to wear my real wedding set. I guess I hadn’t had them on in so long that I decided to wear them. My bands caught the strike plate (this thing)

and I went down like a sack of potatoes. When I got up (ok, when someone picked me up off the ground), my rings had bent and were cutting into my finger and cutting off the circulation.

It. Hurt.

A. Lot.

I was terrified and it was not looking good for my little ring finger. Luckily Paula was with me (nurse bff to the rescue), and was able to move the ring into a better position, possibly popping my finger back into place, as well. I cussed her, I’m pretty sure, but she forgave me!

I was taken to the hospital and was informed by the doctor that I was lucky to still have a finger. I’ll spare you all the gory details and pictures, just know that my finger looked horrible.

Well, how about a picture of my rings AFTER they had to be cut off?

My knuckle will never be the same. Ever. My ring size grew from a 6.25 to an 11 overnight, and was still a size 11 up until a month or two after the accident. Over the past 4 months or so, it has dropped to a size 8.25. I STILL don’t have feeling on certain parts of my finger. My doctor said that I will know by this December how my finger will look/feel for the rest of my life. (It takes about a year for injuries like mine -ring avulsions- to fully heal, apparently. But who really knows?)

If I would have chosen to wear my Qalo that day, my finger would most likely still look and feel normal, and I wouldn’t have a rather large hospital bill (that I’m STILL paying).

I decided it was time for a new Qalo since my finger seems to be settling into what will be it’s forever-size. I made a trip to our local jewelry store, Goodman Jewelers, and picked up a new Qalo! I am so excited to have another one!

This one is SOOOO pretty!! (You can see how my knuckle is larger than it should be in this picture...)

It’s the Lilac Laurel Qalo. It is made using their new QX2 material that gives the ring more flexibility and durability. My old one was the normal Qalo, and I never had trouble out of it, so knowing that this one is even stronger is awesome!

The opening... (Am I the only one who loves opening new things?!)

The ring comes with a cute little pouch to keep your wedding set in while you wear the Qalo...

Qalo’s mission is “to inspire a movement that embraces and shares the power of commitment. This movement is represented by 'Q' stamped on the outside of the ring. It’s about bringing together a community of people who are passionate and most of all committed to every aspect of their life- families, spouses, jobs, and hobbies- and those people sharing this commitment with others” (taken directly from Qalo’s website).

Qalos are the PERFECT ring to wear anywhere, the gym, work, outside, anywhere! They range in price from $11.95 to $29.95. That’s a lot easier to replace than diamonds!

The one I chose was priced at $24.95, and it is worth every penny! I am so excited that I have one again!

I’m not suggesting that I’ll never wear my real set again, in fact, I was wearing it almost every day after I got the set sized to its current 8.25. I AM saying that from now on when I’m doing something remotely athletic, I’ll be wearing this Qalo!

I hope your Friday has been AWESOME and it is only the beginning of what will be a GREAT weekend! Make sure to check back tomorrow!!

Do you spend the time to get “pretty” when you don’t work?

What local activities does your town sponsor?

Do you have a Qalo? Ever wanted to try one?
