What Day is Today and Why I Quit CrossFit...

I seriously had to sit here for a second and check my phone to see what day it is. Summers do that to a teacher. From August-May, I know what day, date, year, all of it, it is... June and July- I. Am. Clueless. Not complaining at all... I love summer ;)
Tuesday we took a trip to a local shopping strip- the hubby was taking me to get some new running shorts! I was super excited! Lynny was told she could pick out a toy... she chose a cleaning brush. I don't know what to do with her some days, but she was really excited about it, and Aaron was excited about the price tag on it, so we took it home to live with us.

We took Lynny by Bass Pro Shop- she LOVES looking at the fish!

She wanted to take a selfie ;)

We then went to lunch.... SUSHI!!!! Lynny went with my parents while we were at the first wedding to pick out our anniversary present ;) A gift card to our favorite sushi place was the PERFECT gift! Thank ya, sweet Lynny! ;)

Later in the evening I hit the road with Major for a short 2 miler. IT. WAS. HOT.

Yesterday started with LOTS of time on the new playset... It's a hit, for sure!

We also made sure to practice our chalk art- with Clyde by her side... As always!

She said she had something in her teeth and wanted a picture to prove she didn't...

We stopped by the library for some light reading...

And puppet play...

Her Auntie Em made her a monkey like the one on the Lysol commercial. Lynny requested it just a week or so ago, and Auntie Em made it happen, as ALWAYS. She was so excited!

Today I wanted to take a few minutes to talk about why I quit CrossFit.

I started Crossfit in January of 2015. Paula had been doing it for a few months and finally convinced me to join. At first, I wasn't too excited about it. I REALLY hated weights. REALLY. HATED. WEIGHTS. However, once I got started, I was HOOKED.
The family atmosphere was amazing. I made lots of new friends. I met some of the people who I couldn't imagine not knowing at CrossFit. I didn't dread going, I looked forward to it. It was a nice change of pace from running, since I had been running for 4ish years before that. My life began to revolve around CrossFit- how I could get better, how I could eat better, what supplements to take, you name it, I was researching it!
I competed in a competition in October of 2016 with three of the greatest girls I've ever known and felt like I was doing pretty well for myself. However, around the end of November some things came to a head at the Hagy Homestead. I realized there were 3 significant reasons for me to quit CrossFit.
I'm going to have our President, Donald Trump, help me explain my reasoning... ;)
First and Foremost: Time with family
CrossFit classes are scheduled for certain times during the day. At my gym, I had the choice of the 4:15, 5:30, or 6:30 classes. I usually chose the 4:15 since it was right after school, however, that meant I wasn't getting home until close to 6, or picking Lynny up until then from the sitter if Aaron was working. When Aaron works nights, he goes in around 6:30, that meant I got to see him for about 30 minutes on those days. CrossFit classes just didn't work for MY family situation.
Second: Money
I don't care what anyone tries to tell you, CrossFit is expensive. It isn't a secret. Even with my discount, I was spending $110 a month on the classes. That is a lot of money, at least to my family it was. That $110 didn't include any extra money I spent on things like shoes, gear (weight belts, wrist wraps, etc.), or supplements. I also started classes for my Ed.S., which isn't cheap. At All. Every cent counts when you're on a budget... CrossFit had to be let go.
Third: Running
No matter how hard I try to expand my fitness, I always come back to running. It solves all of my issues I have with fitness classes. It's free (relatively... ok not free, but cheaper... maybe...). Running fits into MY family schedule so much better than any standard fitness class. I do not have to run at specific times, I can move my runs around to fit whatever schedule I might have that day. I can wake up early, stay up late, I can even take Lynny along with me. That's definitely something I couldn't do with CrossFit- a 3 year old + extremely heavy weights = trouble. BIG. TROUBLE.
I do not regret participating in CrossFit for most of 2015. I made friends that are more like family, I learned that I am stronger than I give myself credit for, and I confirmed that running is the sport for me. It didn't work out for me, personally, but it may work for you and your situation! I know a great gym if you're considering trying it! They are a great group of people, who I still hang out with, and they will welcome you with open arms!
I hope you all have an AWESOME weekend planned! Mine is going to be LONG- that'll be explained later ;)
Where are your go-to shops?
What is your favorite lunch? (SUSHI!!! All day, every. single. day!)
